Best places to explore around Cairns

Cairns is home to some truly spectacular and diverse natural attractions, but if you don’t have the time to see everything, you may feel a little hard-pressed to decide where you would most like to explore. To help you make the most of your motorhome adventure, here are a few favourites that are sure to please:

The beach and the reef: You can make the most of the beautiful sandy beaches, crystal blue waters and easy reef access without having to leave Cairns, but if you’re keen, head north to Palm Cove or Port Douglas to find a perfect seaside escape.

Rainforests and waterfalls: While the Daintree Rainforest is the main showstopper, if you’d prefer not to venture too far from Cairns, Kuranda and Barron Falls are a must for a tropical rainforest experience. Crystal Cascades is within very easy reach of Cairns, with waterfalls and swimming holes that are sure to impress. Josephine Falls and Babinda Boulders are also well worth a visit.

Island escape: While you’re in Cairns, make sure you jump on a ferry to sample the natural beauty and range of activities on offer at Fitzroy Island or Green Island.

Inland adventure: The Atherton Tablelands have plenty to offer—from the beautiful Millaa Millaa Falls and the picturesque Yungaburra which is home to the impressive Curtain Fig Tree and Crater Lakes National Park, to the outback town of Chillagoe, you’ll love discovering this corner of the world.
